BULLISH EXPANSIONTradingView Pine Script v5 Engine

Bullish Trend & Long Setup

Fast EMA 9 > Slow EMA 21 creates an expanding Cyan Bullish Cloud. Price holds firmly above the cloud, triggering a confirmed BUY entry on candle close.

Trend Filter Rule

Fast EMA 9 above EMA 21 = Bullish. Fast EMA 9 below EMA 21 = Bearish.

Execution Confirmation

Look for a decisive candle close above/below the cloud or a controlled pullback test before entry.

Capital Protection

Predefined Stop-Loss beyond swing high/low. Stand aside when the cloud is flat & price is chopping.

SLIDE 1 & 2Core Foundations

1. What is an EMA Cloud?

A visual trend-following tool built from two Exponential Moving Averages.

Exponential Weighting

Unlike a Simple Moving Average (SMA), an EMA gives more weight to recent prices, responding rapidly to momentum shifts while smoothing out random volatility.

The Dynamic Cloud Band

The cloud represents the space between the faster EMA (9) and the slower EMA (21). The thickness and slope of the cloud visualize trend strength.

Trend Filter Philosophy

Use the cloud primarily as a trend filter — never as a stand-alone guarantee of profit. Always combine with market structure and predefined risk.

Visual Chart Elements

  • PRICELive Candlesticks / Close
  • EMA 9Fast Trend Driver
  • EMA 21Baseline Support / Trend
  • BULLISH CLOUDEMA 9 > EMA 21
  • BEARISH CLOUDEMA 9 < EMA 21
💡 Default Settings: Fast EMA = 9, Slow EMA = 21. Fully configurable in TradingView script inputs.
SLIDE 3Technical Architecture

2. Indicator Components

Understand the three visual elements before taking any trade.

FAST EMA (9)

Fast EMA

Responds faster to recent price movement. Acts as the initial trigger for momentum shifts and breakout acceleration.

SLOW EMA (21)

Slow EMA

Defines the broader short-term trend. Serves as dynamic institutional support during pullbacks in strong trends.

EMA SPREAD

The Cloud Spread

The space between EMA 9 and EMA 21. Its slope and expansion rate filter trades, confirming whether momentum is real or decaying.

Quick Read Rules

Bullish Environment: Fast EMA > Slow EMA and price preferably holds above the cloud. Prioritize long setups.

Bearish Environment: Fast EMA < Slow EMA and price preferably stays below the cloud. Prioritize short setups.

SLIDE 4Signal Triggers

3. Entry Rules & Checklist

Example rule set for EMA 21. Combine the indicator signal with price action and disciplined risk controls.

BUY / SELL Checklist

Rules 1-6
  • ✓

Trend Setup: Price trades firmly above EMA 21 for longs (or below for shorts).

  • ✓

Candle Close Confirmation: Candle must close cleanly outside/above the cloud — avoid preempting mid-candle wicks.

  • ✓

Higher-Timeframe Alignment: (Optional Filter) Verify that the 1H/4H trend agrees with the 15M trigger.

  • ✓

Pullback or Breakout: Entry can be taken on the breakout confirmation close or during a controlled re-test of the cloud.

Filter & Sizing Caveats

Critical
AVOID FLAT CHOPPY CLOUDS

When EMA 9 and EMA 21 are horizontal and tangled, price is chopping in a consolidation zone. Standing aside preserves capital.

DO NOT OVER-LEVERAGE

Do not increase position size just because a crossover signal looks strong. Strict mathematical sizing must precede every entry.

Rule of thumb: High quality setups feature a widening cloud with consecutive candles trending outside the band.
SLIDE 5Risk Management

4. Exit & Stop-Loss Rules

Predefine the exit before entering; the indicator is never a substitute for strict risk management.

1. Initial Stop-Loss:

Place beyond a logical swing high or swing low, or another tested volatility metric (e.g. ATR buffer).

2. Trend Exit:

Consider exiting or trimming position size when price crosses back through EMA 21.

3. Cloud Exit:

A decisive candle close through the opposite side of the cloud provides an early exit warning.

4. Profit Target (1R → 2R):

Use a predefined risk-to-reward ratio (e.g. Risk 1% to gain 2%+) or a dynamic trailing stop.

Risk-to-Reward Ratio Model
TARGET (2R)+2.0x Profit
ENTRY POINTExecution Level
STOP-LOSS (1R)-1.0x Capital Risk

Example: Risk 1R → Target 2R. Always calculate position size before opening the trade.

SLIDE 6Trader Value

5. Benefits of the EMA Cloud

Why professional traders rely on it as a clean, repeatable trend framework.

01

Trend Visibility

Makes bullish and bearish phases instantly recognizable without messy overlays or cluttered oscillators.

02

Signal Structure

Creates clear crossover-based entry and exit conditions that leave no room for emotional guesswork.

03

Noise Filter

The cloud buffer helps traders avoid taking low-probability counter-trend trades during high-momentum runs.

04

Easy to Learn

Two simple moving averages keep your chart visually clean and allow new and experienced traders to align fast.

05

Multi-Timeframe Use

Can be referenced as a higher-timeframe trend filter (e.g. 4H Cloud) while executing on lower intraday charts (15M).

06

Rule-Based Trading

Converts subjective discretionary opinions into repeatable, backtestable, and consistent rules.

SLIDE 7Workflow Guide

6. How to Use the Indicator in TradingView

Basic workflow from adding the indicator to reviewing and managing a trade.

1

Open TradingView

Open the chart for your preferred asset (Forex, Crypto, Gold, Indices) and preferred trading timeframe.

2

Add Indicator

Go to Indicators → Invite-Only Scripts and search for your SHAMS CLOUD indicator script.

3

Set Parameters

Review inputs. Default recommendation is Fast EMA = 9 and Slow EMA = 21.

4

Read the Cloud

Cyan Bullish cloud → prioritize long setups. Coral Bearish cloud → prioritize short setups.

5

Wait for Confirmation

Look for candle close confirmation, break of market structure, and optional higher-timeframe agreement.

6

Manage the Trade

Set predefined SL, profit target, and calculate position size according to your risk limit before opening.

SLIDE 8Execution Blueprint

7. Example Trade Workflow

Illustrative example sequence only — signals should be backtested and adapted to your specific market conditions.

Step 1: Signal Setup

EMA 9 Crosses Above EMA 21

Fast EMA crosses above the slow EMA. The cloud shade transitions from bearish coral to bullish cyan, indicating an emerging upward cycle.

Step 2: Execution Trigger

Candle Closes Above the Cloud

Wait for the active bar to complete and close decisively above the upper cloud boundary. Enter trade on candle close or controlled test.

Step 3: Risk Definition

Define Stop-Loss & Position Size

Place Stop-Loss safely below the recent swing low / opposite cloud boundary. Calculate exact lot size based on 1% portfolio risk.

Step 4: Trade Management

Manage Toward Planned 2R Target / Trailing Exit

Allow the trade to develop toward the 2R profit level. If price decisively breaches back through EMA 21, initiate a controlled trend exit.

SLIDE 9Optimization

8. Suggested Settings & Filters

Start simple. Optimize only after testing on the exact market and timeframe.

Baseline Setup

  • Fast EMA:9 Period
  • Slow EMA:21 Period
  • Signal Confirmation:Candle Close
  • Higher-Timeframe Filter:Optional (1H / 4H)
  • Testing Environment:Include Spread & Slippage

Quality & Risk Filters

  • •Do not treat every crossover as an automatic trade.
  • •Flat cloud + sideways price = lower-quality market environment.
  • •High-impact news events can produce rapid false signals.
  • •Test different assets separately; parameters that fit FX may differ for Crypto.
  • •Forward-test on demo before deploying real live capital.
SLIDE 10Mandatory Risk Disclosure

9. Important Risk Note & Discipline

The EMA Cloud is an educational trend-following tool — not a risk-free or guaranteed-profit system.

Lagging Nature: Moving averages are inherently lagging indicators; signals can arrive after a move has already begun.

Sideways Risk: Ranging and choppy markets can generate repeated false crossovers and whipsaws.

No Guarantees: No indicator or technical algorithm can eliminate market risk or guarantee entries and exits.

Disciplined Limits: Always apply disciplined position sizing, strict stop-loss rules, and maximum daily drawdown limits.
